Escape by ArchitekOGP Escape by ArchitekOGP
My Art & Design Portfolio: [link]

This piece i have called Escape. I wanted to create a scene that doesnt look like other manipulations out there. I was a little skeptical about using a girl as the focus as humans are heavily over used in my opinion. But I had to use this amazing stock image somehow.

So I added piece like a puzzle working out what I felt the scene needed next. The colours are very important and were chosen to add an extra power to the composition. I wanted the viewer to be the part of the image, both the woman, cage and the viewer all part of a gaze.

Hope you like and if you would like more just let me know and watch ofcourse :)...
Big thanks to these artists for the stock :)

Great work! In the thumbnail, I thought it was a photograph. :)

The lighting is really great! the only thing that gives away that it's a manipulation is the "string" holding up the cage--it doesn't have a tie or a hook where it connects with the hook of the birdcage.

This is so nice! I wish it could be my wallpaper! <3

Hmmm perhaps I can do a similar manip with a wider backgroud so people can use it as a wallpaper, if I get permission ofcourse. :)

Whoa D:

Ahem... I like the idea of the "lady in a birdcage"
And though i think the idea is a bit overdone how you orchestrate the concept is well done and very warm.
You seemed to have put a lot of thought in the symbology and placement of subjects in the piece.
The geisha to the far left, the spot where most attention is given in any piece. Also she is the msot detailed out of everything.

Then as for the bird cage, the eye travels to that next since it is bold and dark reflecting her status of imprisonment of servicing her body to high paying bidders. (includes bird, the longing to be free and fly on own)

Finally the forest, hazy yet bright. She is lost amongst the mazes of money and sexual rapture, unsire how to escape, even unsure if she wants to escape. But there is light at the end.
There is a hope that she holds onto despite all of this.

great work.

I'm not really into Oriental cultures, but this is absolutely gorgeous! I love the rich, warm colors--I can practically feel the humidity of the forest!

I couldn't see that the bird cage was open, and I had to go back and look for the bird on her head. If that's what you intend for this piece to be, you may want to do some tweaking. Or, if you're like me, you say a piece is done when you're sick of looking at it and you never go back and fix anything. :D

However, my first impression was that the title and the piece were symbolic. Women in China never had many rights (and I am under the impression that they're still oppressed today), especially women in the upper classes (foot-binding and arranged marriages and all that). It seems to me that the model, with her pensive expression, is dreaming of her own escape from these strict practices. Perhaps she wishes to fly away on the back of the bird...

Or perhaps she's Japanese, not Chinese, in which case I just wasted a lot of comment space. :la:

Anyway, I'll shut up now and go fave this already. :D Great job, keep up the good work!
